South Gibson County Middle School Student wins in 2023 Tennessee Association of School Librarians Bookmark Contest Over 150 students from across Tennessee submitted an original design for the annual bookmark contest, sponsored by the Tennessee Association of School Librarians. The theme of this year’s contest is “Read, Learn and Explore at Your School Library.” Student entries were judged by Lexington High School art teacher, Mrs. Amber Douglas, in the categories of creativity, execution of the theme and use of materials. South Gibson County Middle School, 8th grader, Jeremiah Bailey placed as Honorable Mention in the Middle School division. He will receive 25 bookmarks of his design, an enlarged poster copy, and an award certificate. His librarian, Krista L. Grace, will receive 100 bookmarks of Jeremiah’s winning design, and an enlarged copy. Copies of Jeremiah’s bookmark will also be sent to the Tennessee State Legislature and distributed to librarians across the state at the TASL conference this fall. #SGCMS #SGCMS Library #TASLTN @tasltn

SGCMS is partnering with Emmanuel Primary School in Gamasara, Tanzania to help meet several needs. They currently serve 250 students. Of the 250 students, over half of them are sponsored for $440.00 per year, which pays their tuition. The tuition covers their uniforms, 2 meals a day and helps pay for some supplies. They are in need of money to bring electricity to the school, items to help equip the new kitchen that is being built soon, two Samsung Galaxy tablets. Our school motto is, “Be a Better Me”. We want to help our students, to help students across the world to also be able to exemplify that motto and to have a better life from the ability to obtain an education. We will be raising money for Emmanuel Primary School through April 14th. Let’s help others have the opportunities that we all have by putting our school motto, “Be a Better Me” to work.

Coordinated School Health is conducting a mock DUI crash scene on the high school campus on March 1st at 10:00 AM. The mock crash is a staged event that uses real vehicles and actors where alcohol is the reason for the crash. Emergency (police, fire, ambulance, etc.) personnel will respond to the scene as if it were real. These are conducted for seniors only around prom time to raise awareness of the dangers and deadly effects of drinking and driving. While middle school students will not attend this event we wanted to make you were aware of the emergency personnel/vehicles that will be present on campus that day.
